Director Franchise Sales & Re-Sales

Prior to joining the NRP & BNB team in 2023, Alan had spent more than four decades with some of the most recognizable franchise brands in the U.S. After an early retirement from the Dairy Queen franchise system in 2021, Alan joined our team to drive the development of our Franchise Sales & Re-Sales division.

BACKGROUND:

Alan has spent his entire life working within the hospitality industry in various roles. His grandfather and father were McDonald’s franchisees in the 1950s through the 1990s – and after college, Alan began his professional career at 21 years old as an Assistant Manager for a corporate McDonald’s location. It didn’t take long though for his talents to be recognized. Within a decade, he was overseeing over 30 corporate McDonald’s locations across the Charlotte market.

Alan then made the jump to Bruegger’s Bagels. He started off as a Market Manager but quickly climbed the ladder to become the VP of Franchise Development & VP of Franchise Operations for the Bruegger’s brand. In this role, he developed and executed all franchise support systems and developed the protocols for the Bruegger’s franchise development program.

Later he would be recruited by International Dairy Queen where he would spend the next 15 years of his executive career. He joined the Dairy Queen brand as an Area VP of Operations for the Southeast US, then was elevated to VP Operations for the Eastern half of the U.S. In this role, Alan was directly responsible for overseeing over 1,600 locations.

The long & frigid Minnesota winters at IDQ Headquarters turned out though to be too much for his Southern sensibilities, so he requested to take a step back to oversee the Mid-Atlantic region for Dairy Queen until he took early retirement in 2021.

It was in this role with IDQ where he would cross paths with our CEO Sherman Walters, while he was a young franchisee in the system. Alan and Sherman had worked on numerous initiatives together in the Dairy Queen system – from Supply Chain management to implementing new operations technologies across the system.

Shortly after he retired from Dairy Queen, their paths would cross again – and one conversation led to another – until Alan joined our team to oversee the development of our Franchise Sales platform.

What I Enjoy the Most About NRP and BNB

I love where this company is going. We are young and lean, but with brand trust across all markets that is unmatched. Sherman and I navigated some tough challenges together with IDQ. And I watched his natural ability then to connect with both operators and our C-level staff. When we reconnected, I was just looking for a place to help other operators reach their potential. But I’m thrilled to be leading our efforts to work with budding franchise groups and help guide them through the endless challenges of building their footprints in the restaurant franchise world.
