But it’s not just a deli.
Alongside Austin Bennett’s concept is his father’s bakery, The Pound Cake Man.
The father-son collaborative is now open at 1628 E. North Street in the former home of the famed Strossner’s bakery a couple miles northeast of downtown Greenville.
The deli menu is a simple breakdown of hot and cold sandwiches, or “sandos” as they’re described. There are also “not sandos” and a collection of side items.
Hot sandwiches include a couple “Pulp Fiction” references in the “Bad Mother Clucka” (pickle-brined and fried chicken, cole slaw and house pickles) and the “Royale With Cheese” (crispy smash burger with yellow onions, pickles, American cheese and grill sauce on a knotted roll).
“Back To The Grindstone” is the featured cold sandwich and is made up of salami, mortadella, capicola and provolone on a soft hoagie roll with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, banana peppers, pickled red onion, and olive oil and vinegar.
